Letter from S. Henderson
William Street, Sligo
March 24th/74 (1874)
My Dear Cousin,
it is with great pleasure i am ausoring (answering) your very kind letter for we dispaired of ever hering (hearing) from you we got the paper you sint. (sent) Oh we weer (were) so glad here that uncle, Aunt all cousins is so hapey (happy) but no beter(better) than we wish ye all to be now to say a word about our familey (family).We are mideum(medium) well off but nothing to brag of, father is very bad with gout in his feet and hands he
(hardly) walk with it for the last 3 years. Mother is wonderful for hir (her) age but suffers very much with rumutie pains in all hir lymbs (limbs) not able to move hardley.John is marrid (married) 17 years hir name is anne pearson.She is english.She was a ladysmaid to Wifs Waynne (not sure if that name is correct).They have onley (only) one boy our dear brother killed in bermuda, west indies, 12 years ago. June is married to Daniel Conner. He is in the police in landass(?), 3 children, 2 girls, boy. Both John and hir is very well off is believe the very seldom rite (write) to us. John lives in Liverpool, so Mary and my self is at home we keepe (keep) a laundress for all the best familys in and aboute (about) the town we keepe ourselves very respectable. We are very mutch thought of in Sligo. I can asure you we get work from Dublin and Rascendlorn (Rathscanlon) by the train. The peopul (people) here tiles (tells) us we cuold (could) do well in america.We are so
industreys we can do (?) or house work if our thing fails we can turn to another. My dear cousin i only wish i was in Canada with ye. It is your cousin Sarah that wished to go if she could i am long wishing for to go for i think i could do beter for my dear father and mother than her(here) though i canot (cannot) complaine for we are greatly ( ?) here but so badley paid here we are both strong and helthey.Thank you it is wonderful how we got in Sligo and such to into than we are very comfortable. We seldom here from rascunlon (Rathscanlon) we never was in it since we left it. We here (hear) it is very mutch changed that we wold (would) not now (know) it.
